A foolproof method for making fluffy, restaurant-quality rice in the microwave in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups dry rice (Jasmine, Basmati, or Sushi)
2 1/4 cups cold water
Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice 2-3 times in a bowl of cold water until the water runs clear, then drain completely.
  2. Transfer the rinsed rice to a large microwave-safe bowl and add 2 1/4 cups of cold water.
  3. Microwave the bowl uncovered on high power (900W) for 10 minutes.
  4. Stir the rice briefly, then cover with a microwave-safe lid or wrap and cook on medium power for 5 minutes.
  5. Allow the rice to rest, covered, for 5 minutes to finish steaming.
  6. Fluff with a fork and season with salt before serving.

Notes

  • Always use a bowl larger than you think you need to prevent boiling over.
  • Adjust cooking times slightly if your microwave wattage differs from 900W.
